Happy, Happy Birthday Cake

So here's my first attempt at a decorated cake.....

P1000277_2

I baked two 9-inch cakes and sliced them in half to make 4 layers. Then I alternated the layers with chocolate and vanilla icing and then attempted to make a shell border and used a pattern to do the scroll designs. I think it actually reminds me of something Disney-like with the color choices and scroll work.

My mom was surprised. She and everyone at the party liked it and thought it was pretty tasty. Obviously, I'm still "perfecting" my decorating skills, but I don't think it's too bad for my first attempt.

That is your FIRST attempt? Wow! I'm very impressed. Beautiful!

Thanks! Of course I highlighted the best parts of the cake in my photos! The stencils I used made the scroll patterns surprisingly easy to do. I also used a small parchment bag to do the writing, which made it fit in my hand better.

This is great for your first attempt!!! I am looking forward to taking my Wilton decorating class in July :) -Linda

This is GREAT for your first attempt. And your handwriting is fantastic. Many people are really nervous with piping the script and getting the spacing correct, but you had no problems!
